About the Institute

The Institute of continuing and distance education (ICDE) is an institute established by the statutes of the University to equip its graduates for the local and international community with the required skills and enhance their human capital through academic excellence, technological advancement and professional development

The Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (ICDE), was established by the Ghana Communication Technology University, under Statutes 2022 Schedule N section 2(a), to help fulfill the mandate of the University by the Act of Parliament.

Per the statutes of the University, the Institute shall perform its functions, among other things to:

(a) Ensure that only qualified students are admitted into and remain on the Continuing and Distance Education programme;

(b) Provide accurate and timely information to prospective students, faculty and administrators concerning the Continuing and Distance Education programme;

(c) Counsels Continuing and Distance Education students with academic challenges; and

(d) Recommend for approval by the responsible faculty or school, the award of Continuing and Distance Education degrees.

 

The Aim of the Institute

The institute was established to extend the mandate of the University in delivering quality higher education in information and communication technology (ICT) and its related programs through the provision of digital/virtual centers to the dispersed academic audience.

The Structure of the Institute

The institute is headed by the Director as outlined by the Statutes of GCTU. The Director has overall responsibility over the Institute and reports to the Pro-Vice Chancellor. The Deputy Registrar, who is the head of administration, shall report to the Director and be responsible for all administrative matters of the Institute.

The Head of e-learning infrastructure shall ensure that all ICT resources used for the fulfillment of the institute’s functions are well structured and functional. The ICT Infrastructure head shall report to the Director. All learning centres shall be managed by Coordinators who shall oversee the distance learning plan of action within the various learning centres and report to the Director of the Institute.

Currently, the Institute has five learning centres under its ambit. They are, the Ho, Koforidua, Takoradi, Kumasi and Accra learning centers.
